JOSEPH B. ARNETT was born in
1763 in the state of Maryland to Mary Ann and James Arnett. Some of his
siblings include: James, Pegu (Peggy?), Durham, Sary, and Mary. Joseph
married Agnes Shelton about 1784 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and is
found in the 1790 census of Caswell County, North Carolina. Agnes is the
daughter of William Shelton "of Dan River" and Hannah Yates,
daughter of Elizabeth (maiden name is NOT Kilgore) and John Yates of
Pittsytlvania County, Virginia.
Some time later, we discover Joseph and family
living in Henderson county, Kentucky. They appear in the 1840 Federal
Census. Joseph is 77 years old and Agnes is 74. They have a male aged 15
to 20 living with them, but I do not know who this man is. There is also a
male aged 30 to 40 (son Thomas - age 35) and a male 40 to 50 (son John -
age 46).
