MARKS, QUESTION, WILLIAMS posted by Dorothy Todd on Wednesday, October 1, 1997

On 28 Jun 1830 in Henderson Co., Ky, Thomas MARKS made an affidavit that his brother, Isaiah MARKS had died a single man in Loudoun Co., Va. in 1785 and left a family of several members. Isaiah had left a will in Loudoun Co. in which he willed 1000 acres of land in Henderson Co. to his two nephews, Richard WILLIAMS and Samuel WILLIAMS. QUESTION: How do I find a copy of this affidavit? Would there be a copy of this in the Henderson Co. courthouse? Is there someone who could go to the courthouse and get me a copy of this paper? Thanks for any information.

CUNNINGHAM, HICKMAN, OWEN posted by Suzanne Russell on Saturday, November 22, 1997

Mary OWEN died in Henderson County in 1854 and is buried at Fernwood Cemetery in the family plot of her nephew, Fountain CUNNINGHAM. I am fairly certain she was a daughter of William HICKMAN, of Franklin County, the "First Baptist preacher in Kentucky", but I would like to prove this. Also, I would like to find the name of her husband. None of her children lived to adulthood. In her will, Mary Owen gave her slaves the choice of being recolonized in Liberia or going to Fountain CUNNINGHAM. Which fate did they choose?

HARDESTY, HARDISTY, HOWARD, KELLY, LINCOLN posted by Anna Lee Clark on Saturday, November 22, 1997

I am researching Henry HARDESTY 1760-1825/married Hannah HOWARD; children Nancy, Jesse, Rebecca, William, Christopher, Rachael, James1801-1876/married Julia Ann KELLY1810-1879, (my g/g/g/g grandparents), and John. When James moved to Texas, in 1856, he left family in Henderson County. His wife's father, Frederick KELLY, was a plantation owner in or around Henderson County, and Julia Ann was a friend of Nancy Hanks LINCOLN, and was present at the birth of Nancy Hanks LINCOLN and Abe LINCOLN's daughter. Abe LINCOLN split rails for the HARDESTY/HARDISTYs and KELLYs. When part of the HARDISTYs moved to Texas some went with the LINCOLNs. I have not been able to trace the family of Henry HARDISTY, but have several possibilities. I would also like to find information on Julia Ann KELLY's family and location of the plantation. I have over 1200 HARDESTY/HARDISTYs in my database, and would like to link the Ohio/Illinois names with some of the information I have. My information has come from the Records in Salt Lake City, family Bibles, and word of mouth from great grandparents, and great great aunts and uncles, and some from the Family Tree Maker.
